From My Wife, KERA Dallas, and me

A Note to the United States Secret Service

My wife is constantly stressed and worried that I'm going to say the wrong thing on this website or cross the line of propriety on permitted dissent. (I'm more inclined to believe that the line will be moved without notice, but that's me.)

I try to point out to her all of the obnoxious things that were said about our conservative presidents during the last 30 years, and the justifications for those words (and actions) such as "dissent is the highest form of patriotism." Indeed.

My wife is most concerned right now about a case here in Texas, where a man is going to jail for apparently making a threat against the life of the president. The story from KERA is:

DALLAS, TX (KERA) - A Dallas man has pleaded guilty to posting on the Internet a threat to kill President Barack Obama.

Brian Dean Miller could be sentenced to up to five years in federal prison and fined up to $250,000 after entering his plea in a federal court in Dallas on Tuesday. U.S. attorney's spokeswoman Kathy Colvin says the 43-year-old man remains is being detained until his sentencing, which has not yet be scheduled.

A posting titled "Obama must die" turned up on a Craigslist site on March 21, the night Congress passed a health care overhaul bill. The posting said Miller was following through on a vow to become a terrorist if the bill passed.

Authorities were able to track Miller through his e-mail address. He was living with his mother.

I have no further information about what the man actually posted online. If his legal counsel advised him to plead guilty, I assume that somewhere in his online posting there was at least one transitive sentence involving the verb "kill", the subject Mr. Miller and the object Mr. Obama.

I am a retired USAF Intelligence Officer. - Hang on a minute, this has a significance. I spent a lot of my career in flying operations. When you're working with pilots, they always associate "security" with the Intel Guy. Thus the Intel Guy becomes the unit security training officer. One of the modules of the mandatory security training is "Protection of the President", it probably still is. I'm very familiar with the topic, I used to teach it.

That module teaches people to recognize credible threats against the safety and welfare of the POTUS. It does not cover comments about POTUS being a Kenyan fraud or a freaking socialist. It does not forbid accusing him of having his head jammed up his ass. There is no prohibition against calling POTUS a dishonest, corrupt, sackofshit, incompetent, narcissistic  hoodlum.

Fortunately, the US Secret Service has nothing to fear from me as an individual. As you can see from reading my pages, I have certain opinions that I believe are fairly widespread these days. If Osama Bin Laden were to level the white house with the Obama family inside it, I would shed a tear for that historic old structure and maybe check the box to designate $1 of my taxes to help rebuild it. If Mr. Obama were to contract HIV/AIDS from his chief of staff, I would urge my congressman to vote in favor of palliative care.

The one thing I will not do in these pages is construct a transitive sentence that expresses or implies any kind of violence or force of any kind passing from me to the POS who is our POTUS. In fact, if I were walking down the street with a painfully full bladder, and saw Mr. Obama laying in the gutter on fire, I would not bother to piss on him.

P.S. I hope this doesn't sound like I'm being a suck-up, but I really admire you guys (and girls) on the Protection Detail. No way would I put my precious body between some crazed assassin and the worst president in the history of the U.S.
