The 'Angel of Death': Special Forces' latest
weapon is biggest flying howitzer in the world
The Daily Mail's Investigative reporters have
just "discovered" and reported
on USAF Special Op's latest weapon. You can click on the link, above left,
to read the story. It's sort of old news though. A full squadron of AC-130s
with the 105mm howitzer were operational back in 1972 - 73 on the
Ho Chi Minh Trail, killing trucks.

"To Protect and Serve"

Ho Chi Minh Trail

A Traffic Jam on the Trail
Pilots liked to disable the first and last truck in a convoy so
they could leisurely destroy the rest which could not escape.

The breech end of the 105mm howitzer and the gunners loading it

The "business end" of the howitzer
It rolls on a short track to absorb some recoil so the back
of the aircraft
is not jerked sideways. The gun to the left is one of several 25mm rapid-
fire cannons for strafing targets not worthy of the howitzer.

And finally, - the 105mm howitzer firing
Radar and precision IR/optical targeting devices give
first-shot
probability of kill approaching 100%
