How Do Bloggers Make Money?

Should there be commercial links on AndDomestic.com?

Today I received an email from a close friend and former U.S. Army Officer who forwarded information about adding links to this site that would allow me to generate some income. The way it would work is that, for example, on the page where I had mentioned hollow-tipped bullets stuffed with bacon as an anti-taliban weapon, the reader would find a link to take to a site where they could purchase some of those bullets. Every click on the link from my site would be counted, and at the end of the month, I might receive a check for a few dollars.

Another way would be to render my site with frames, giving up some editorial control, and allow third parties such as Google to post random advertisements along the sides of my material. You may have seen this on some sites and blogs - the writer is tearing the incumbent speaker of the house limb from limb in his text, and the ad-sensor has keyed on her name and is running a big "Re-elect Nancy Pelousy" poster right beside his fine editorial. That Sucks.

I want to assure all of my loyal readers, both of you, that I am not for sale. My principles can not be influenced by money. (Not a lousy few dollars, anyway.) So AndDomestic.com will remain free of commercial links and advertisements.

Keep this in mind when you're reading blogs and websites: are you reading the words of someone who's being paid to write them or are you reading the genuine words of an irate, grumpy old man who's pissed-off about everything and complaining for free?
