148 Pakistani lawmakers suspended

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Pakistan's election commission says 148 lawmakers have been suspended for failing to disclose details of their wealth.

The lawmakers come from the national and regional assemblies, which together have more than 1,000 members.

Election commission spokesman Afzal Khan said Monday those who submitted the required reports to the body would be reinstated.

Lawmakers must submit yearly reports of their wealth to try and prevent corruption, which is rife within Pakistani politics.

Khan was unable to give details on which parties the lawmakers came from because he was out of his office.

I may owe an apology to Pakistan for statements implying that their government was corrupt or dishonest. If they have a law like this and enforce it, they are well ahead of the U.S. government.
